There’s something timeless about brewing coffee on the hob. The sound of the water heating, the aroma filling the kitchen, and that first strong sip – it’s a ritual in its own right. The stovetop, or Moka Pot, has been a household favourite for generations, producing a bold, espresso-like cup without the need for a machine.

It’s simple, compact, and reliable – perfect for anyone who loves their coffee strong and aromatic.

You’ll Need

Freshly roasted coffee, ground medium–fine (finer than filter, coarser than espresso)

Stovetop (Moka Pot)

Kettle

Mug

Brew Guide

Fill the bottom chamber with hot water up to the safety valve.

Fill the filter basket to the top with coffee, level off (don’t tamp).

Assemble the Moka Pot and place on medium heat.

Brew until the top chamber is full and the coffee starts to spurt.

Remove from heat promptly and serve.

Not quite right?

Bitter? Try a coarser grind or lowering the heat. Weak? Try a finer grind or ensuring the basket is filled properly.

Always use medium heat – rushing the brew with high heat can scorch the coffee.

What coffee should I choose?

Stovetop brewing makes a rich, concentrated cup with plenty of punch. Medium to darker roasts with chocolate, nutty or caramel notes work beautifully here.
