This natural coffee from Timor Leste is deliciously fruity, with notes of blackcurrant, cranberry, and vanilla. It starts with juicy fruit, has a balanced body, and finishes with smooth, creamy vanilla. Perfect brewed via filter or enjoyed over ice.
Timor Leste is located on the eastern half of the island of Timor in Southeast Asia, sharing the island with Indonesian West Timor. It is one of the world’s youngest countries, having gained independence from Indonesia in 2002 after decades of conflict. As the nation faces the decline of its oil reserves, coffee has emerged as a vital export, offering new economic opportunities for its communities.
This coffee comes from the suco (village) of Koileki, situated in the high altitudes of the Emera region. The coffee is sourced through Raw Material, an organisation dedicated to supporting coffee-producing communities in Timor Leste by reinvesting 100% of their profits back into these communities. Their work in Emera is transforming the coffee sector by improving quality, fostering connections, and overcoming local challenges.
At the Koileki wet mill, cherries are picked daily and transported to the Raimutin processing station, built by Raw Material in 2018. Here, they undergo meticulous hand-sorting to ensure only the finest cherries are selected. The cherries are then dried on raised beds under the high sun for three weeks, allowing the natural sugars to develop fully. The result is a coffee with vibrant, complex flavours that truly showcase the unique terroir of Timor Leste.
