Head Roaster, Rachael Jowitt, introduces our latest Round the World Club offering from Ethiopia.
This month we’ve chosen a stunner for our Round the World club members, a natural processed coffee from Ethiopia that has a whopping cupping score of 90.25!
Also, for the first time we’ll be offering this coffee up on our website for sale as retail, so keep an eye out on our social media for links to be able to try this tasty coffee at home.
This coffee is naturally processed from the Kayon Mountain farm, situated in the Southern part of Ethiopia in the Guji zone of Oromia. The farm is privately owned by Ato Esmael and his family. Guji is a relatively recent addition to the range of beautiful coffees being exported from Ethiopia.
New heirloom trees have been planted on the farm in fertile sandy clay loam soil beneath the canopy of a natural forest and is grown using Organic processes, then is harvested by local villagers from October to February.
During processing only the cleanest, highest grade beans make it through the initial washing stage and then are placed on raised beds where they dry over 12- 20 days, being meticulously hand turned and picked over to remove defected beans.
We’ve roasted this coffee lighter for filter drinking, so we recommend a slower brew, try a V60 or Chemex, we also love it through an aeropress. This month we’ll be sending out our V60 brew guide along with the coffee to give you some ideas on how to get the best from the coffee.
In the cup you’ll find a heady mix of flavour notes, blueberries, rich forest honey, lime and milk chocolate. We hope you like it!
